Value

You may have seen, intentionally or not, the latest news about Kim Kardashian. She was in Paris and was robbed at gunpoint. I’m not full of sympathy towards her.
OK, that’s not entirely true. I have sympathy in terms of the fact it must have been a traumatizing experience and one I wouldn’t wish on anyone, even someone I don’t like.
I really don’t like Kim Kardashian. I struggle to think of one redeeming feature for her. Everything about her is image and that’s not what life is about. She has become a millionaire on the basis she is good looking. I don’t even view her as good looking because it’s impossible to tell what she would actually look like without the various fakery which makes her look like she does. She doesn’t appear to have any personality whatsoever. She chose to marry perhaps the most arrogant man in the world. I could go on.
It puzzles me that she has become something of an idol to so many girls and young women. They want to be Kim Kardashian and that’s a terrible thought.
My lack of sympathy comes from the fact I don’t think Kim has lost anything of value. Sure, she lost something of financial value- millions of pounds of jewellery in fact. But I don’t see that as important, far from it.
Why would anyone own millions of pounds worth of jewellery? I really don’t understand it. Of all the things you could spend money on, improving people’s lives and changing the world, and she spent it on something to make herself look better. Even spending thousands of pounds on jewellery seems unnecessary but millions is an extravagance that no human deserves to have. I truly believe that no basically good human being could be so extravagant.
Real value is about more than money. Value in an item is it’s meaning, what it represents to you. In terms of jewellery that usually means either something handed down through your family or the representation of someone’s love. The item could be virtually worthless yet in your eyes be priceless. That’s true value and I can’t help but wonder if Kim Kardashian has even the slightest concept of it.
Real value is about people and the feelings they create in us, not money.
